The bet name, number of selections required, the number of bets it contains, the minimum number of winners
to have a return, the details have letters substituted for selections. The table is ordered by the number of
selections in each bet
Bet Name No. Sels No. Bets No. Wins Details
Single 1 1 1 Your bookmakers least favourite bet, particularly if it is each way. You only need one winner to beat him!

Single Stakes About 2 2 1 1 stake A anything to come (atc) 1 stake B, 1 stake B atc 1 stake A.
One winner gives the same return as a single except the stake unit is not returned. 2 winners gives the
same return as 2 singles on each selection but only 2 of the 4 stake units are returned.
Also called 'Vice Versa', 'Up and Down' or 'Cross Bet'.
Double Stakes About 2 2 1 1 stake A anything to come (atc) 2 stakes B, 1 stake B atc 2 stakes A.
One winner gives the same return as a single except 2 stakes are not returned. 2 winners gives the
same return as 3 singles on each selection but with 4 stake units deducted from the returns.

Single Lap 2+ 2+ 1 A bet of any number of selections comprising a single on each any to come
a single on the next selection then stop. The any to come is on the next selection only.
On 3 selections it is 1 stake A atc 1 stake B atc 1 stake C, 1 stake B atc 1 stake C atc 1 stake A
and 1 stake C atc 1 stake A atc 1 stake B
Double 2 1 2 The stake is placed on A, if that wins everything is then placed on B.
If A or B lose, the stake is lost.

Forecast 2 1 1 Nominate 2 selections in a race to finish first and second in the correct order.

Reversed Forecast 2 2 1 Nominate 2 selections in a race to finish first and second in either order.

Combination Forecast 3+ 6+ 1 Nominate 3 or more selections in a race in which two of them must
finish first and second in any order. The number of bets is the number of doubles in the selections, multiplied
by 2 (for any order within each double e.g. 12 or 21 ). Therefore 3 selections is 6 bets ( 3 Doubles x 2)

Treble 3 1 3 The stake is placed on A, if that wins everything is then placed on B, if that wins
everything is then placed on C. If A, B or C lose, the stake is lost.

Tricast 3 1 1 Nominate 3 or more selections in a race and they must finish lst, 2nd and 3rd.
In horse racing this must be an handicap race with 8 or more runners declared overnight. In greyhound racing
there must be at least 6 runners.

Combination Tricast 3+ 6+ 1 Nominate 3 or more selections in a race and they must finish lst, 2nd
and 3rd in any order. The number of bets is the number of trebles in the selections, multiplied
by 6 (for any order within each treble e.g. 123, 132, 213, 231, 321 or 312 ). Therefore 4 selections
is 24 bets ( 4 Trebles x 6 )

Accumulator 4+ 1 4+ One bet requiring any number of selections but all the selections must win
to have a return. Also called a 'RollUp' or 'Acca'. A Treble is an accumulator of 3 selections, if there are 4
selections it could be called a 'Fourfold' with 5 selections a 'Fivefold', etc. .

Yankee 4 11 2 6 Doubles AB, AC, AD, BC, BD & CD. 4 Trebles ABC, ABD, ACD & BCD. One Accumulator ABCD

Yankee Plus 4 11 2, 1 6 Doubles AB, AC, AD, BC, BD & CD. 4 Trebles ABC, ABD, ACD & BCD. One Accumulator ABCD.
Just the same as a Yankee but on the slip one position is nominated for a consolation. If the selection in that
position is the only winner in the bet, a free Single is placed on that selection.

Lucky 15 4 15 1 4 Singles A, B, C & D. 6 Doubles AB, AC, AD, BC, BD & CD. 4 Trebles ABC, ABD, ACD
& BCD. One Accumulator ABCD. This bet offers both a consolation and a bonus. If only one winner is selected
the SP of the winner is doubled, i.e. a 5/1 is settled as a 10/1. Some bookies treble or even quadruple the SP of
the single winner. If an each way bet is placed the double SP consolation (e.g. 10/1) only applies to the win
part of the bet, the place parts are settled at 5/1. There also a 10% bonus applied for all 4 winners, that
usually only applies to the win part of the bet. Be wary some unscrupulous bookmakers do not pay the bonus
or consolation on bets including a sports selection.

of 5% or 10% for four winners. There is also a bonus added for all 5 winners, usually 15%. The
consolations and bonus usually only apply to the win part of the bet.

Alphabet 6 26 1 Made up of 4 separate bets. In the order written a Patent on ABC,
a Yankee on BCDE, a second Patent on DEF and an accumulator on ABCDEF. There is usually a 10% bonus for
6 winners. Selections in positions BCDE carry more importance as these appear in both a Patent
and a Yankee. Selections A and F only appear in a separate Patent.

Placepot 6+ 1+ 0 A Tote bet that doesn't even need 1 winner. The bet requires at least one
placed selection from each of the first 6 races at a horse meeting. To calculate the number of bets multiply
the number of selections in each race, 1 in each = 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 = 1 bet,
2 in each = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 64 bets. It is acceptable to put FAV to include the favourite in a race.
Should there be 2 or more joint or co favourites returned, your selection is deemed to be the fav with
the lowest racecard number i.e. nearest the top of the list of runners.
The dividend declared is variable, depending on the size of the Tote pool and the number of winning tickets.
Place Dividends shows the finishing positions that count as
successful depending on the number of runners in each race.
To calculate the winnings multiply: number of winning lines X unit stake X dividend.
For example a 50p perm of selections 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 2 x 2 = 96 bets costing £48, with placed selections
of 1 x 2 x 1 x 3 x 1 x 1 = 6 lines successful, with a dividend of £150, gives a return of £450
( 6 x 0.50 x £150 )

Jackpot 6+ 1+ 6 Same principles as the Placepot but one big difference. The first 6 WINNERS not
places must be selected! The bet is staked in the same way as a Placepot but calculating the winnings is easier
as it is only possible to have one winning line, Multiply: unit stake X dividend. In the event of a dead heat
two dividends would be declared so use the Placepot method,
multiply: number of winning lines X unit stake X dividend, if both dead heaters are selected.
Again the dividend declared is variable, depending on the size of the Tote pool and the number of
winning tickets. If nobody wins the jackpot the cash rolls over to the following day and pools of £100,000's can
be generated. Placepot pools can also rollover to the following day but this happens very rarely.

Super Heinz 7 120 2 21 Doubles AB, AC, AD, AE, AF, AG, BC, BD, BE, BF, BG, CD, CE, CF, CG

21 Fivefolds ABCDE, ABCDF, ABCDG, ABCEF, ABCEG, ABCFG, ABDEF, ABDEG, ABDFG, ABEFG,
ACDEF, ACDEG, ACDFG, ACEFG, ADEFG, BCDEF, BCDEG, BCDFG, BCEFG, BDEFG, CDEFG.
7 Sixfolds ABCDEF, ABCDEG, ABCDFG, ABCEFG, ABDEFG, ACDEFG & BCDEFG. 1 Sevenfold ABCDEFG.

Goliath 8 247 2 28 Doubles, 56 Trebles, 70 Fourfolds, 56 Fivefolds, 28 Sixfolds, 8 Sevenfolds
& 1 Eightfold. There is no way I am going to list each bet as it should be avoided at all costs. If this is
one of your regular wagers you should think about all the money you keep losing and have a look at this site
Gamblers Anonymous. As the number of selections
and bets have increased moving down this table, so have your chances of losing. The increase in bets from
Super Heinz to Goliath was 127 (247 120), which means that if you have a Goliath, as soon as one of the
selections loses, you have lost 127 bets (51% of the total stake), as then all that is left is a Super Heinz
on the remaining 7 selections. Forget trying to pick 8 winners in 247 bets, prune the selections
to those most strongly fancied, which will increase the unit stake and have a bet type that gives a return
for just one winner.

Union Jack 9 8 3+ What a shocking bet... it's possible to have 5 winners from the 9 selections
and yet still lose all your stake. The bet is made up of 8 trebles on nine selections in a 3 x 3 grid.
Three trebles across the grid ABC, DEF & GHI. Three trebles down the grid ADG, BEH & CFI. Two diagonal trebles
AEI & CEG. The selection in the centre of the grid ( E ) appears in 4 of the 8 trebles. There are various
combinations of as many as 5 winners that render the bet a total loser, for example A, B, F, G & I.

Union Jack Patent 9 56 1 The Union Jack bet is made up of 8 trebles on nine selections in a 3 x 3 grid.
As detailed above. The Union Jack Patent applies a Patent instead of a treble to each of the 8 lines so there
are 56 bets in total. One winner guarantees a return as there is a single bet in each Patent. If the sole winner
was the middle selection, this would result in 4 stakes on the winner because this selection appears in 4
of the Patents.

Union Jack Round Robin 9 80 1 The Union Jack bet is made up of 8 trebles on nine selections in a 3 x 3 grid.
As detailed above. The Union Jack Round Robin applies a Round Robin instead of a treble to each of the 8 lines so there
are 80 bets in total. One winner guarantees a return as there is an ATC bet in each Round Robin. If the sole winner was the middle
selection, this would result in 8 stakes on the winner minus the 8 stakes because this selection appears in 4 of
the Round Robins.
